Now we are talking!

After the misfire of Episode 4, and this week’s MAJOR leaks and spoilers, I found myself not too fussed about watching this episode. However, even though I was annoyed that half the episode was ruined, I came away pleasantly surprised and excited again. Admittedly, after watching it for the second time. The first time was full of ‘that was ruined’, and ‘seen that before already’.

From the beginning it took me a little while to realise the show in Wanda’s reality was a full 16:9 ratio. Which for the 1980s is a little weird. However, maybe Marvel has spent all its budget allocated for black bars warping in and out, lefts and right. 😉 But was glad to see that the MCU 16:10 ratio was still around. Up till this point I have really enjoyed the simple yet affective storytelling being done with ratio changes. But, oh well. Good while it lasted I suppose.

I found the relationship between Wanda and the Twins very interesting throughout – like she can’t use her magic on them? Seeming to beg them not to ‘age up’ – implying they are in control of that, not her. But she has seemed to be able to use her powers on others in the series. They also seem to be able to see things as they are – not as they seem. Fascinating situation that I’m interested to see how it develops.

The Agnus ‘moment’ was wicked (even though spoiled in promotions). I noticed how she was asking Wanda about whether the scene should restart or not – ignoring Vision completely – which in turn, makes him question even more. I think the balance of the three core actors is sublime to watch. A great trio. Extra bonus points for baby Vision photos in the intro credits too. Made me laugh. Nice touch.

I am really enjoying the new meta way the show is moving. Second-guessing the questions of the audience to then question themselves. But still believe there could have been a better approach to build the thriller – instead of the constant drought of four episodes. Especially had to have been a better way to approach last week’s episode. I feel relief and slightly surprised that the constant ball-tickling foreplay the series has been doing for 4 episodes, is finally over (hopefully). Finally, felt that the story is actually progressing somewhere.

Find it interesting more and more people in the town are recognising that Wanda is the queen bee of the situation – postman etc.

The cliffhanger, would have been amazing, if not spoiled by Disney.

Predictions / Confusions

As I have no idea about the background or the comic books this is based upon, I thought it would be fun to predict what could be happening next. Feel free to comment below your own predictions / review and play along – BUT LIKE ME, NO SPOILERS! 😛

  • Time seems to be accelerating in the town? When Tommy & Billy questioned how, to them, it was Saturday not Monday it was an interesting twist. Hence, why the babies didn’t sleep “for days”?
  • Wanda doesn’t know how anything started in the first place – Agnus and ‘Ralph’ using Wanda’s grief as a source for something?
  • Can Wanda actually bring real people to life? If Vision is a reanimated corpse, and everyone else is from the town – how can the twins actually exist? Suspecting that Agnus might be the one ‘gifting’ the children. Especially when Wanda’s power portfolio is repeated throughout the episode by SWORD agents.
  • Talking about SWORD – why after 5 years ‘blip’ are they working on Vision in the labs ‘9 days ago’. Something smelling fishy there. Guessing Wanda came to take Vision back from them, when she realised they were using his body for their research and not respecting his living will.
  • SWORD are actually the bad guys, not the ones innocently trying to ‘save the situation’.
  • “Does Wanda have a nickname?” – the building towards the Scarlet Witch?
  • Who is the missing person in the town? Still no idea… But Ralph is still missing.
  • The multiverse is slowly breaking open with the cliffhanger. Maybe this is the goal of Agnus and ‘Ralph’ all along?
  • Enjoying the “trio” of characters inside and outside the ‘hex’: Wanda, Vision and Agnus vs Rambeau, Woo and Lewis. They are really well-balanced for storytelling and well written as individuals. However, I’m suspected the trilogy of people is important? Maybe it’s taking three to make the ‘hex’ to work? Three teams of three perhaps?

Got to have some praise when I can get things right  😉
