Two episodes in one day for the new Marvel Wandavision show – late Christmas present perhaps? Especially after how long we’ve had to wait for them to finally release them (was supposed to be before Christmas). However, plot is finally getting juicy with this episode, with way more insights and things to ponder over than Episode 1.
So it’s now the late 1960s – with the world still in 4:3 ratio and black and white. It seems after MUCH praise I gave Episode 1, where Marvel changed their logo to the era the episode is set in, they obviously run out of budget to continue that motif. Which is a real shame, as I genuinely thought it would have been a nice ongoing touch throughout the series. However, the Bewitched style introduction was a real treat – let’s hope now I’ve praised this, it won’t disappear too. 😛
The ‘inside’/forth wall breaking jokes genuinely funny. “Look, it’s the star of the show” from Agnus to Wanda was beautiful writing. The long-drawn-out look Angus gave Wanda about “being herself” at the committee meeting was eerie and disturbing. Why doesn’t Agnus want Wanda to be herself? I’ve learned with the Marvel universe that everything is there for a reason – and that moment set my alarm bells off.
The whole premise of a community show ‘for the children’ was very surreal – especially as after second viewing to write this – there are no children in the whole town / episode. Geraldine seems to be a fantastic character – again amazing casting. However, the awkward moment where she cannot remember her name seemed ‘off’ to me slightly. Perhaps ‘the matrix’ quickly gave her the name to use?
The colour of red is smacking everyone around the face as being important – with the blood and the red model helicopter, but it is rather confusing me. There doesn’t seem to be a consistency to it currently, or it’s not obvious yet. Especially when it isn’t everything red. I feel stupid right now, but maybe the answer hasn’t been made obvious yet. 😉
Once again, all the teasers right at the end of the episode. Fantastic to see how Wanda can manipulate ‘the matrix’, to get the perfect moment with Vision. It was yet another interesting use of television technology being used for storytelling. Personally cannot think of anything else they can use as a play on this – unless one week the subtitles go weird with secret information. 😆
The amazing work between Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettaney – was once again beautiful to watch – especially with the magic act scene. True delight. It’s like watching a well-timed double act who’ve been doing their act for years. I cannot gush enough.
Predictions / Confusions
As I have no idea about the background or the comic books this is based upon, I thought it would be fun to predict what could be happening next. Feel free to comment below your own predictions / review and play along – BUT LIKE ME, NO SPOILERS! 😛
- Agnus seems to know WAY too much. Suspect her and ‘Ralph’ are behind this whole thing.
- Could Dotty be a sidekick to Agnus and ‘Ralph’? How she explains how she doesn’t believe Wanda seemed to be way over played – knowing too much.
- With Stark Industries advert last episode, and the blatant Hydra watch advert this episode – I’m starting to think Wanda is conflicted by her allegiance?
- Why was Mrs Hart at the show, but no Mr Hart?
- Finally, noticed the hexagons (yes slow to that party). And the beekeeper? Is Wanda Queen Bee of ‘the matrix’?
